SCOTT DRURY ANNOUNCES FIVE MAJOR ENDORSEMENTS IN 58th DISTRICT RACE

Today, Scott Drury, Democratic candidate for State Representative in the 58th District, announced that he has been endorsed by the following leading organizations on women’s reproductive health rights, the environment and common-sense gun legislation:

Pro-Choice

Planned Parenthood – Illinois Action

Personal PAC

Pro-Environment

Sierra Club

Responsible Gun Legislation

Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence

Brady PAC-Illinois

These endorsements underscore Drury’s commitment to protecting a woman’s right to choose, our environment and our neighborhoods. “As I meet voters throughout the district, I am repeatedly told that they care deeply about women having access to safe reproductive healthcare and making sure that our environment is protected and Illinois remains a state that bans people from carrying concealed weapons,” said Drury. “My opponent refers to issues like these as distractions. I couldn’t disagree more and will vigorously fight for our women, our environment and our safety.”

In connection with the endorsements, Drury’s campaign also announced that on September 30, 2012, Sierra Club will be hosting a fundraiser at a private residence in Highland Park to benefit endorsed candidates, and on October 9, 2012, Planned Parenthood – Illinois Action and Brady PAC-Illinois are sponsoring a fundraiser for Drury at the law firm of Reed Smith LLP in Chicago.

Drury worked as an Assistant U.S. Attorney under Patrick J. Fitzgerald for over seven years. During that time, he worked to keep our communities safe by prosecuting and convicting violent criminals, child sex offenders, drug dealers, white-collar criminals and corrupt political officials.

Drury grew up in Highland Park and now lives in Highwood with his wife, Shelby, and two children. He currently practices law at a firm in Chicago and is an adjunct professor at Northwestern University School of Law. Drury also volunteers as an advisor for Deerfield High School’s Mock Trial Team.

The new 58th District includes all or portions of Bannockburn, Deerfield, Glencoe, Highland Park, Highwood, Knollwood, Lake Bluff, Lake Forest, Lincolnshire, Northbrook, North Chicago and Riverwoods. The general election is on November 6, 2012.

We care about gun violence and we want to prohibit the sale of hand guns, but it never happens even when Democratic candidates win the election. Did Obama lessen the guns in our country? It stayed the same. Will this candidate lessen guns in our community? I think not. The gun lobby permeates all political parties. It's a non issue when we vote...
