There may be an outstanding real estate bargain Oct. 30 in Deerfield for someone willing to participate in an unusual marketing technique for luxury real estate—an auction.

Once listed at $10.8 million and featured as the Deerfield WOW House in March when it was offered for sale at $5.9 million, this 123-year old luxury home will be auctioned by Hilco Luxury Auctions a week from today.

“Bid your price,” a Hilco Auction specialist said. All showings and previews are by appointment only. Patch is offering a virtual photo tour here and perspective bidders can contact a Hilco auction specialist by email (hilcoreal@gmail) or phone (847-579-9568).

The house was originally built as an orphanage in 1889. Over the last 10 years, it has undergone extensive work to turn it into a luxury home. “Over the past 10 years the property underwent an ambitious multimillion dollar renovation, restoring the world class architecture and design, nearly doubling the original square footage,” the specialist said.

The house is spread over 13,400 square feet and includes nine fire places, a ballroom, countertops made from either granite or marble and much more, according to Hilco’s brochure.

Some of the more unique features include a fireplace mantel once owned by Napoleon III of France and a two-story wood paneled library.

There may be a bargain for someone, but anyone who wants to bid must provide a $100,000 deposit in certified funds, according to the specialist.
