Democratic Challengers Lag Behind Dold Fundraising

Schakowsky faces little opposition in 9th District.

Potential opponents of Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) lag behind the North Shore Congressman in fundraising, according to reports filed in the last few days with the Federal Election Commission (FEC).

Deerfield management consultant Brad Schneider raised $78,999 for the period ending Sept. 30, according to a report filed with the FEC Friday. He now has $417,016.93 in the bank after collecting $321,005.11 last quarter. He has also loaned his campaign $100,000 and donated $50,000 of his own money.

Mundelein attorney Vivek Bavda, who entered the race early last month, raised $23,301 in the month. He also loaned his campaign $25,000 and has $28,619.25 in the bank.

Schneider and Bavda will face Waukegan community organizer Ilya Sheyman and Hainsville mathematician Aloys Rutagwbira in the Democratic primary March 20. Rutagwbira has filed nothing with the FEC but has a website.

Sheyman filed his FEC report Friday showing $151,036.36 raised. He told Patch about the money he raised for the campaign from 6,200 donors October 3. He now has $141,513.65 cash on hand to wage his campaign.

Dold, as reported on Patch Friday, has nearly $1 million in the bank after raising $376,534 in the quarter. He has no primary opponent.

In the 9th Congressional District, Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston) reported gathering $104,163 for the quarter and now has $342,526.63 in the bank. She also has no primary opponent.

No Republican opponents have filed to run against Schakowsky with the FEC, but Tea Party accountant Tim Wolfe has a Facebook page indicating he will oppose the veteran Congresswoman.
