Maybe I shouldn't have used the word 'store' in the headline.

Just kidding.

Both Alice Moulton-Ely and  Nancy Salzwedel correctly guessed Anderson General Store.

According to Laurie Stein at the Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Historical Society, James Anderson was born in Aberdeenshire, Scotland in 1831. After moving between Michigan and Lake County throughout most of the 1850s, he and his family settled in Lake Forest in 1858.

Starting in 1862, Anderson ran a general store located at the northeast corner of Deerpath and McKinley Road, shortly moving a block west to Deerpath and Western. It remained in this location until 1904, when the three-story brick Anderson Building was constructed. (That building, of course, is still here today, currently housing Walgreens and other businesses.)

Anderson was the scion of an extensive Lake Forest-Lake Bluff family that includes architect Stanley Anderson and the engineers and surveyors of James Anderson Co.

Thanks again for your participation and feedback. We'll have a new photo posted next Sunday (Nov. 21) and reveal the answer on Monday.

I am just guessing, could it be O'Neil's hardware? It does not look like it is in the new Market Square.

Based upon a few calculations, it is likely taken at about 9 or 10 am in September. The year is anyone's guess. 1895- 1900 would be my guess. Faces north.
