Eighth-Grader Wins Bid to American Idol
As if taking a class trip to Disney World wasn't enough, imagine winning a singing contest that could lead to national stardom!
Deer Path Middle School eighth-grader Morgan Fitzsimmons-Cohen, 14, has the "Golden Ticket"—a no-wait pass to audition for American Idol thanks to winning a singing contest at Disney World while on a class band trip, reported the Lake Forester.
As a dare from her friends, Fitzsimmons-Cohen entered the "American Idol Experience" contest and performed "I Want You Back" by the Jackson 5, which resulted in winning the top prize, she told the Lake Forester in a Q&A story.
Like the actual show, the audition process begins with the private a capella performance. Those who make the cut move to a second audition—a karaoke-style performance. Three participants are then chosen to compete on stage in the finals, with judges giving criticisms, according to the American Idol Experience website.
