Scholarship Applications for Library, Marinat Due in March

Martinat scholarship honors late LFHS grad's love for outdoors; Friends of LF Library targets LFHS seniors.

The Friends of Lake Forest Library will award $1000 senior scholarships in May to students who demonstrate a passion for reading.

Graduating high school seniors who are residents of Lake Forest, Lake Bluff or Knollwood are eligible to apply for the award. The scholarship application consists of an application form, a 500-word essay, and a recommendation from an adult.

Lake Forest High School students can apply through the school's College Resource Center. Scholarship applications will be available by mid-February, and must be returned by March 18.

Eligible students at other high schools may print an application found on the Lake Forest Library Website at www.lakeforestlibrary.org.

These applications must be dropped off at the Library or be postmarked by March 18. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

In 2003, Friends of Lake Forest Library inaugurated the senior scholarship program to recognize students whose lives have been impacted and enriched by reading.

Funds for the awards come from proceeds of the annual Book Sale held every September.

Scholarship Honors Late Lake Forest High Graduate

The Christopher Martinat Memorial Scholarship has been established in memory of the 1998 Lake Forest High School graduate's love of nature and the outdoors.

The scholarship will fund the tuition for a month-long National Outdoor Leadership School experience in the Wind River Wilderness Range of the Rocky Mountains for one student. Rocky Mountain courses are typified by travel at relatively high altitude (8-12,000 feet), with spectacular scenery, wildlife viewing and opportunities for rock climbing and fishing.

Interested applicants mustbe at least 16 years old and residents of Lake Forest, Lake Bluff or Knollwood.

Application packets are available at the Guidance Department at Lake Forest High School. Completed applications, which include an essay, should be returned no later than March 11.

A selection panel will interview semi-finalists and a recipient will be announced no later than March 25.
