Hartstein Backs Schneider for Congress
Letter to the Editor
It has been frustrating observing our polarized Congress and seeing too many members take extreme positions and being unwilling to work together to find real solutions to issues. That makes it critical for all of us to find the best possible Candidates to go to Washington to represent us. That is why I have personally taken the time to sit down with the Democratic candidates in the tenth congressional district to hear their views and positions and their approach to dealing with issues, gone to forums to hear how they handle themselves, reviewed their web pages, scrutinized their answers to candidate questionnaires, and looked at their literature and closely watched the evolution of their campaigns.
Though the field is an impressive group of dedicated and thoughtful and energetic campaigners, I believe that Brad Schneider is the best candidate to represent our diverse district. After thorough review of the backgrounds, experiences, positions and approaches of all the candidates I have personally concluded that Brad Schneider is the best Democratic candidate to represent our entire District and has the background and experience to both win in November and to go onto to Washington to fight for us in Congress and work collaboratively to find real solutions to the challenges facing our nation.
I urge others to join me in casting your vote for Brad Schneider in the Democratic primary for the tenth congressional district. Brad Schneider is an experienced pragmatic progressive Democratic voice with over 20 years of varied business experiences that gives him the best foundation to go to Congress to credibly fight to implement and maintain our Democratic values and strengthen our economy. I am convinced that his extensive experience and business sense will allow him to effectively fashion solutions for our many challenges ranging from protecting our safety net programs like social security and medicare to creating a fair tax system, and doing what is necessary to create jobs and markets to get us back on a sound financial footing for all Americans.
I urge voters to consider that this Democratic Congressional race is a watershed election, and that in view of the reconfiguration of the district has an even stronger Democratic constituency. That makes coming out to vote in the primary more important than ever.

If you think Congress is frustrated now, wait until Brad Schneider, a Republican in Democratic clothing, votes with the Republicans. He funds the Republican candidates and you can look at Lynn Sweet's article in the Chicago Sun Times to see for yourself. That's all we need in this District in another Dold.

Therese I'll let you in on a secret every consultant understands. If you get into the situation where you feel it is pragmatic to make political contributions then you must do so with sound business judgment. Schneider was a consultant at the time, a tough business in and of itself, where performance is measured by outcome. It's how business with government is done, and it's non-partisan.

Which is exactly why no one should want a business consultant to represent them in Congress. We've got enough Representatives in Congress that give handouts to their business interests. We don't need another.

Brad Schneider has a history of supporting progressive issues and has the experience to necessary to beat Bob Dold in November. Therese, I'm sorry, but Ilya Sheyman has never had to support a family, never had a mortgage, never had any real responsibility beyond campaigning for an ultra-liberal political action committee. Brad Schneider has worked tirelessly to help businesses become more efficient, create jobs and rally support for the State of Israel. Brad has the support of the Maine Township Dems, the Vernon Township Dems and now the Daily Herald. Ilya has the support of left-wing extremists and those naive enough to think someone with no experience in leadership or government could take on Bob Dold. This country is in too critical of a period to mess around with the notion that someone as inexperienced like Ilya could handle the challenges we face.

Brad Schneider doesn't have the organization necessary to beat Dold. If you think Sheyman's 550 volunteers are going to move to Schneider, you're crazy. He's a Republican in Progressive clothing. Voters want someone they can trust to stand by the promises they make on the campaign. Who's more likely to act like a true progressive in Congress, the guy who's dedicated his career to organizing around progressive issues or the guy that became a progressive only after polling showed that it's what 64% of Democratic voters in the district want?
The fact that national Democratic activists are behind Sheyman is definitely not a bad thing. It's the type of support that's necessary to beat the Super PAC money on the Republican side. We need someone who can unite the Democratic party and unfortunately the liberal base is not going to help Schneider.

It's bothersome to me that none of these candidates have business operating experience. Consultants, venture capitalists, activists, these dolts are failing to demonstrate that I could trust them to run any substantial sized business, let alone the business of my Congressional District. Schneider has not served as an elected office holder, and I'm uncertain about Sheyman. We already have a dolt with 2 years experience.

Actually Brad ran a insurance company a while back and has worked for many fortune 500 companies. His most recent venture I believe was Cadence Consulting. John Tree has also had marketing management experience with large companies.

Just the type of Democrat we need to take on the health insurance companies ... a business consultant who used to own an insurance company!

You folks should get your facts straight. Brad says he contributed to Kirk because of Israel, and I'll take his word over your speculation, Mr. Hall. Spouting off when you have no facts is irresponsible. And Ilya has the support of most township organizations and nearly all activist Democrats. I have many years of business experience and I would rather have a Paul Wellstone Democrat with the ideals and integrity that are needed in DC than a consultant who has supported Republicans who've opposed equal pay, choice, and environmental responsibility. Kerry was thought to be the most electable too - it makes no sense not to vote for the best candidate out of fear of electability.

I can only interpret your saying in one breath that you take him at his word, and then you attack him for supporting a republican indicates that the 26 year old believes he can dispatch folks like you to influence comments and votes here with spam jam? A career politician at age 26 is not a very attractive voter demographic. Sheyman would have been the perfect opponent for Joe Walsh, but he's roadkill for sure in this district. Guess you missed out on the secret I shared with you previously. Chalk it up to youthful indiscretion I suppose.

schneider gives me GREAT confidence because he can work well with others. Please look beyond the political parties and focus on what needs to be done on a local, state and federal level. Do you want us to continue to be a welfare state?

Republicans put us in a "welfare state." Do you want more Bush tax cuts and more wars? Think of what we would be like today if we were not paying for all of the tax cuts and Iraq & Afghanistan wars.

“Brad Schneider is the best candidate to represent our diverse district”?
Only part of the district Brad Schneider would represent are his fellow Kirk-Democrats who, in election after election, snuffed out our chances to have a Progressive Democratic voice speaking for us on the House floor.
It irks me—no, it sickens me—that Schneider would then turn around and make the claim that he is “a lifelong Progressive” (this, according to 9 of the 14 fliers Schneider’s campaign has mailed to my house)…
Schneider behaves more like a Republican every day. First he gives thousands of $$$ over the years to Kirk and other Republicans. Then like the newly conservative Romney and the “Pro-Choice” Bob Dold, he claims to be something he clearly is not. (Brad, “a lifelong Progressive?” Yeah right.) And now Brad says he’ll take Super PAC money.
Sheyman is the only true Democrat (and the ONLY Progressive) in this Primary contest. I urge all my fellow Dems to vote for Ilya!

EXACTLY! Guess what? If you're progressive on social issues, but moderate on fiscal issues, you're not a Progressive. If supporting a single payer health care system makes Ilya Sheyman too liberal to be elected, sign me up for the radical left!
