Historical Photo: Dr. Theodore Proxmire

Weekly posting celebrates Lake Forest's sesquicentennial.

Picked an easy one this week.

Several of you guessed it right away.

Thanks to Carlen Marie, Gail Hodges and Alice Moulton-Ely for keeping the conversation going.

The answer is indeed Dr. Theodore Proxmire, longtime physician in Lake Forest. A special Lake Forest Day parade was held in 1955 to honor his 50 years of medical service - many of the 3,000-plus babies he delivered over the years marched in the parade together with balloons.

Dr. Proxmire was instrumental in the establishment of Lake Forest Day. As a member of the Young Men's Club, in 1907 he went to the Lake Forest Woman's Club with the proposal to put on a community fair.

We'll be back Sunday with another historical photo. Thanks for your participation and feedback.

Dr. Theodore Proxmire. Came up with the idea of Lake Forest Day.

I agree. It's Dr. Theodore Proxmire, who also was involved with the organization of Lake Forest Hospital on its present site.

Dr. Theodore Proxmire, definitely! He was a well-respected doctor in LF, delivering over 3,000 babies! He was the grand marshall for this LF day in 1955. He also posed that day with the oldest and newest babies he had delivered.

I met Senator Proxmire (son) while attending the University of Wisconsin at Platteville circa 1980. I, of course, mentioned LF, and the Anderson Family and he immediately took me aside and we had a little chat. I think he was on a book tour, but for a sort while, I had his full attention, to the chagrin of the crowd. His father was our family doctor.
