Lake Bluff is alive with the “Sound of Music” this weekend as the Lake Bluff Middle School spring musical takes to the stage for two performances.
More than 150 sixth, seventh and eighth graders are involved in the production, which began rehearsals in late January. Countless teachers and parents have also volunteered their time designing and building sets, sewing costumes, assembling props and more.
The show will open today (April 20) with an all-school performance, and then opens to the public at 7:30 tonight followed by a 2 p.m. matinee Saturday (April 21).
Premium tickets are available for $20 at Lake Bluff Middle School, 31 E. Sheridan Place, Lake Bluff, or by calling (847) 234-9407. General admission tickets are $10 each, and are available at the middle school; at Wisma, 24 E. Scranton, in Lake Bluff; and at the door.
The “Sound of Music” is a musical based by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein. It takes place in Austria and is based on the memoir of Maria von Trapp, “The Story of the Trapp Family Singers”. Originally a Broadway production, it was adapted as a 1965 film musical starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, which won five Academy Awards.
The LBMS production team includes Allison Fink, Ann Cvitkovic, Adrienne Olmstead, Janet Engel-Julian, Doreen Buksa, Daryl Beese, Annie Snow, Nate Blackmer and Brian DeYoung.
