Lake Bluff's Sunrise Beach Back Open To Swimmers

Lake County Health Department gives the OK.

After a weekend closure, Sunrise Beach and the rest of the beachfront along the North Shore is back open to swimmers starting today (July 25).

The Lake County Health Department gave the OK this morning, according to Dave Peterson, director of Facilities and Recreation Services for the Lake Bluff Park District.

A high volume of rainfall starting Saturday closed Sunrise Beach and all beaches along the North Shore to swimmers.

The ban was continued on Sunday.

According to the Chicago Park District website, "Due to heavy rains, the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District opened locks on the Chicago River downtown and at Wilmette on July 23. When this occurs, a swim ban is in effect at all beaches until test results show low levels of bacteria in the water."
