Lake Forest Edges Montini to Gain Final Four Appearance

Last of Montagne's hat trick proves to be difference.

Date: May 23 - State Supersectional

The Final Score: Lake Forest 10, Montini 9

Top Scout Performers: Izzy Montagne scored three goals, including the game winner in the seconf half. Amanda McMahon scored two goals and had one assist. Goalie Kallie Felhaus made 10 saves including two free position shot saves with 40 seconds remaining.

Other Notable Scout Performers: Single goals came from Katie Sullivan, Emily George, Courtney Hite, Emily Cavalaris (one assist) and Brenna Carberry (one assist). Halle Frain led the team in ground balls with five.

What's Next: Lake Forest (19-2) faces New Trier in the State semifinals at 7 p.m. May 30 at North Central College, 30 N. Brainard St., Naperville. The State finals are June 1 at Northwestern.

The Bottom Line: Lake Forest led 7-5 at halftime, but Montini wouldn't go away in the second half and scored to tie the game at 8 and again at 9-9 before Montagne scored the game winner. The Scouts are back in the final four for the first time since 2009. They have a chance to avenge a 13-8 loss to New Trier earlier in the season. Two senior captains, Abby Sirus and Hannah Geldermann, missed this game due to concussions.
