Lake Forest Academy Senior Earns Scholar Honor
Students will participate in CivicAction weekend.
Adaobi Okoli, a senior, has been named a National Achievement Scholarship Program Finalist and will qualify for National Achievement Scholarships offered in 2012. The National Achievement Scholarship Program is an academic competition established in 1964 to provide recognition for outstanding Black American high school students. Black students may enter both the National Achievement Program and the National Merit Program by taking the PSAT/NMSQT and meeting other published requirements for participation. The two annual programs are conducted concurrently, but operated and funded separately.
Seniors Manny Chavez, Jourdan Gooden and Rich Barber have signed letters of intent to play collegiate sports in Division I programs next year. Chavez is a boarding student from Whiting, Ind., and has been at Lake Forest Academy since ninth grade. Chavez signed his letter of intent to University of Illinois-Chicago on Feb. 1. Jourdan Gooden is a boarding student from Florida, and will take his soccer skills to Florida Gulf Coast in the fall. Barber is a boarding student from Wadsworth and will play football next year at the College of the Holy Cross.
Over long winter weekend, Feb. 17-20, 25 LFA students will participate in CivicAction weekend. Students spend the weekend engaged in meaningful service, hands-on field experiences, meetings with prominent professionals and community leaders, reflection and team building.
