Lake Forest Club Pro Earns Spot at Australian Open Amateur Tennis Tourney

Will play in men's, mixed doubles competitions.

Adam Morgan, racquets associate at the Lake Forest Club, will represent the United States in the Kia Amateur Australian Open Tennis Tournament, Jan. 26-29, in Melbourne, Australia, during the second week of the Australian Open.

Morgan, a Mundelein resident, will be the U.S. representative in both the men’s and the mixed doubles tournaments, competing against representatives from 15 other countries.

To qualify, Morgan captured the Midwest qualifying tournament last summer. In October, he competed against the winners of the other four U.S. regions, losing in the finals in a close match against an opponent from the Boston area.  However, the winner was recently disqualified for unspecified reasons, allowing Morgan to advance as the U.S. rep.

Morgan also won the US qualifying event in 2007. He finished in fourth place in the Kia Amateur Australian Open in the men’s singles event. Morgan and the U.S. woman’s representative finished in fifth place in the mixed-doubles event, with the U.S. taking home second place for the combined results in the men’s singles, the women’s singles and the mixed-doubles events.

Morgan has competed in the qualifying event during each of the past five years, and won the Midwest region each year.  In the tournament against the other regional winners to advance to the Kia Amateur Australian Open, he finished second in 2008, 2010 and 2011, and came in third in 2009.
