Lake Forest Knocks off Deerfield; Durrett Returns

Girls' basketball closes regular season on winning note.

 

 

BOYS' BASKETBALL

Date: Feb. 7

The Final Score: Lake Forest 56, Deerfield 46

Scouts Top Performer: John Hayes scored 13 points to lead the Scouts. 

Other Notable Scout Performances: Thomas Durrett, who missed a pair of games due to a concussion, was back in action. Carter Bass remains out with a concussion.

Who’s Next: Lake Forest (12-8 overall) recognizes its senior players prior to playing Stevenson at 7:30 p.m. Friday (Feb. 10) at home.

The Bottom Line: Lake Forest pulled away in the second quarter, outscoring the host Warriors, 15-6, to lead 24-15 at halftime. The Scouts led 39-26 early in the fourth quarter, but Deerfield rallied to trim the deficit to 43-39 with 2 minutes, 10 seconds left to play. However, Durrett completed a three-point play, and combined with free throws from Hayes, George Quall and a layup by Ben Simpson pushed the margin back to 53-41. Lake Forest has won 8 of its last 10 games.

 

GIRLS' BASKETBALL

Date: Feb. 7

The Final Score: Lake Forest 49, Round Lake 29

Scouts Top Performer: Mary Striedl and Annie Keller each scored 10 points. 

Other Notable Scout Performances: Michelle Antonucci added nine points.

Who’s Next: Lake Forest (3-24 overall) opens Class 4A Regional play against Deerfield at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 14 at Hersey High School in Arlington Heights. Winner moves on to face Palatine Fremd at 6 p.m. Feb. 15. Sesaon ends for loser.

The Bottom Line: A 19-point third quarter turned a 17-9 halftime lead into a 36-19 advantage. Scouts close a tough regular season on winning note.
