Five local runners participate in historic race Monday.

Four Lake Forest residents and one Lake Bluff resident will participate Monday in the 116th annual Boston Marathon.

Registered runners include John Hall, Lynne Hans, Ed Packel and Ed Zylka from Lake Forest, and Brad Jeffery from Lake Bluff, according to the marathon website.

Interestingly, all of the runners are at least 50 years old or older. Packel and Hans are both 70. To qualify for the Boston Marathon, entrants must run a qualifying time at a certified marathon. Qualifying times are determined by their age on the date of the Boston Marathon, according to the website.
