Lake Forest Man Accused of Punching Fellow Costco Shopper

A customer dispute outside the Mettawa Costco store that became physical resulted in the arrest of a Lake Forest man on battery charges Tuesday.

Lake Forest resident Bruce Mordini, 48, of the 400 block of Ridge Road, was arrested Tuesday at the Costco in Mettawa and charged with aggravated battery after police said he punched a 61-year-old fellow shopper, reported the Daily Herald.

The victim reportedly drove his vehicle to the store's front door to load groceries when Mordini, a former Highland Park High School basketball star, began yelling and accusing the man and his wife of nearly striking him, according to the Daily Herald. The incident escalated to Mordini allegedly striking the man twice, once  in front of Costco employees.

Mordini stands 6 feet, 8 inches tall and weighs 250 pounds, while the victim is 5 feet, 8 inches, reported the Lake County News-Sun. Mordini's defense attorney told the Lake County News-Sun that his client played basketball at Bradley University and also played professional basketball.

Mordini posted 10 percent of a $10,000 bond Wednesday pending an April 2 court date, reported the Daily Herald.

Cool heads always prevail BUT unaware drivers are everywhere. I've been 'tapped' @ the Highland Park Nordstrom Rack & have come very close @ the Costco in this article. A lot of drivers just think they have the right of way vs a pedestrian, especially in parking lots.

For a man that size to get to 48 years old without knowing that there will rarely be a "fair fight" for him, means there is a serious problem in his life. Time to get help.

There are always two sides to every story. Unfortunately, people are too quick to deem someone guilty without knowing the person or the truth. I happen to know Bruce personally, and know that this is just one side of the story in the media. What's been reported is not the truth of what actually happened.

I know this guy too and while I would agree that clocking someone twice is not the best course of action, I have to wonder what the other side of the story is. The behavior seems patently out of character for Bruce.
