The continued heat and lack of sufficient rainfall has moved the City of Lake Forest to post an immediate burning ban for the time being, according to a press release issued Thursday afternoon.
All bonfire, campfire and open burning activities are being suspended. Once measureable rainfall creates more favorable conditions, city officials will re-evaluate the climate and determine if and when the ban should be lifted.
There have already been brush fires in Lake County this summer, and conditions remain ripe for more. Several municipalities throughout Illinois have also enacted burning bans.
Residents are urged to exercise caution even while cooking outdoors, and make sure to use a proper grill on a hard surface.
