Drury and Madigan Were Both Named in the Complaint Filed with Illinois State Board of Elections Alleging Illegal Campaign Coordination:
Democratic candidate for State Representative Scott Drury claimed he would work to clean up state government, but a recently filed complaint with the Illinois State Board of Elections alleges Drury has engaged in illegal campaign coordination with Democratic Party Chairman Michael Madigan.
State Law prohibits committees making independent expenditures from directly coordinating with campaigns, but this week both the Democratic Party of Illinois and the Democratic Majority PAC made independent expenditures on behalf of Scott Drury. Prior to these independent expenditures, the Democratic Majority PAC has provided Drury with over $30,000 of direct assistance including staffing and polling while the Democratic Party of Illinois provided Drury with over $176,000 of direct assistance.
On Friday, one of the independent expenditures, a radio ad produced by the Democratic Majority PAC supporting the candidacy of Scott Drury was removed from the air by WBBM for lacking any factual basis.
"Scott Drury has taken over $200,000 directly from Michael Madigan and has now engaged in a sort of cover-up to hide an additional $41,000 worth of expenditures that definitely violate the non-coordination part of Illinois' ethics laws, " said Mark Shaw. "Not only were the Madigan-Drury ads found to be so blatantly false that they were pulled from the air, they were produced in violation of state ethics laws."
Furthur highlighting the fact that there was coordination, on Saturday Drury released a statement via email saying that he asked the Democratic Majority PAC to stop airing any ads on his behalf.

You should truly be ashamed for even writing your comment about an honorable, ethical man. How would you like someone to "suggest" in writing that you might be prosecuted? Such a suggestion can be made about anyone (the communists were great at this type of logic). You should do your homework before printing slander.

This is typical day before the election false attacks that there is no time to refute. Mark Shaw has run a campaign of lies. Never stating what his views are. The ad was the truth. Mark Shaw is anti choice and supports conceal and carry. This attack really tells you something about his character

There's nothing typical about it. The ads were so blatantly false that even the far left WBBM couldn't tolerate them any more. When a station like WBBM takes the unprecedented action of pulling advertisements, you know they are bad. And if they weren't bad, why did Drury apologize for them? This IS a BIG deal. Kudos on WBBM!

First, I usually vote Republican. However, Karkazis' editorial solidifies my vote for Scott Drury. The editorial should be used to teach a course in false logic and misleading campaign tactics. You write of "allegations," yet you draw conclusions as if these "allegations" are fact. How convenient that you (and candidate Shaw) are trying to magically make fact out of allegation right before the elections so the State Board doesn't have time to prove them false. You even state yourself that the Democratic PAC made "independent" expenditures and that such "independent" expenditures are allowed by law, yet you somehow leap to the illogical allegation of illegal collusion with Drury! While we can agree that the Democratic PAC is too powerful, here is where you are wrong. Drury is independent and ethical. He looks you in the eye and means what he says, a rarity in Illinois politics. The only FACT here is that Scott asked the Democrats to remove their ad, demonstrating that he has the mettle and independence to stand up to Madigan. We need him! Stop dragging Drury's good name through the mud. These allegations will be proven false, and your editorial filled with nothing but rhetoric is proof itself. I worked as an aide to the best Republican Governor we have had in Illinois in recent history, Jim Edgar, yet I strongly support Democrat, Scott Drury. Why? Because, like Edgar, he is ethical, honest and will never be owned by any interest group or party.
