LFHS Orchesis: Seniors Celebrate Culmination of Efforts to Bring Club Back
Show is Friday night at East campus.
When Carolyn Huszagh began her freshman year at LFHS, she realized that one thing was missing from the curriculum: a place where dancers could express themselves in a non-competitive form and learn from each other.
With the help of her sister and some friends, Huszagh resurected the Orchesis Club from its 20-year hibernation, and was instrumental in hiring Director-Advisor Annie Snow to run the program.
Huszagh is graduating soon, along with classmates Katie Mass, Kathryn Kriss, Emma Fath, Maria Callahan, and Hannah Mattson, but they leave behind a legacy that will foster the love of dance at LFHS for years to come.
Their final recital, “Back in Black!” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday (May 6) in the Raymond Moore Auditorium at the LFHS East campus.
Tickets are $3 for students and $5 for adults. For more information, visit www.lfhs.org.

Wow I am so impressed that Carolyn Huszagh and her cohorts who were able to pull this together! When my daughter attended LFHS '98 grad, there were no options outside of palms and I did inquire and offer different supervisor options for such a club. I am an Evanston High School graduate and our form of Orchesis: dance club, was called Escande. We had two gym teachers and one artist in residence who was a professional dancer. We were blessed to have Shirley Mordene, who has her own troupe and teaches for Columbia College. The emphasis there was to show us how to do our own choreography. We partnered with the Jazz Band who created music for us while watching us rehearse. We we did outside performance which included visiting elementary schools as part of their cultural assemblies and stayed for a question and answer session after the performance. We meet twice a week after school all year. Most of us also were in DANCE HONORS, a gym class alternative for juniors and seniors. So we were dancing five days a week! Escande still exists at ETHS. Keep it up girls and open it to guys as well. We had two.
