McKenzie Ties Cycling To Assist Small Businesses

Tenth Congressional District candidate makes stop in Lake Forest during Sunday bicycle trip.

Bicycle riding was the vehicle for Tenth Congressional District challenger to spread his word while trekking up the North Shore Trail last weekend.

McKenzie is one of three Democrats seeking their party’s nomination to oppose in 2012.

McKenzie, a Wheeling attorney, led a group of 10 supporters Sunday on a bike ride from the Highland Park Metra station to the Great Lakes depot. He stopped at Lake Forest’s Market Square to spread awareness of healthy living and cycling as a possible form of transportation.

“The bike path is an integral part of our transportation system. It’s an emission-free way to get to work,” McKenzie said. “You can put your bike on the train. In fact some of our supporters are going to get home that way today.”

Cycling ties into McKenzie's jobs program.

"Small businesses can encourage people to get to work this way," he said. "When we put people back to work, we want to make it easier and more efficient for them to get to work. The Small Business Administration will make the loans directly to them."

McKenzie believes in continuing the energy incentives from the Bush era tax cuts beyond the 2012 expiration.

"We should extend the credits but we have to look at a larger tax picture," he said. "This all ties in to my position to make the tax code simpler."
