National Democrats Shine Spotlight on 10th

DCCC reserves $3.1 million in air time in three Chicago area districts for fall campaign.

The national spotlight on the race for the 10th Congressional District seat between Rep. Robert Dold (R-Kenilworth) and Deerfield management consultant Brad Schneider became more intense today with the reservation of $3.1 million of television commercial time by Democrats.

With three contests in the Chicago area targeted by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) as part of its Red to Blue program, the organization charged with electing Democrats to the House of Representatives reserved $3.1 million in commercial time after Labor Day.

Earlier: Update: Dold Responds to Schneider

Schneider, who is running against Dold in a district made more Democratic through redistricting by the Illinois General Assembly, is a likely beneficiary of the reservation, according to a story today in Roll Call.

The other campaigns targeted in the Chicago area are Tammy Duckworth against Rep. Joe Walsh in the 8th District and former Rep. Bill Foster against Rep. Judy Biggert (R-Hinsdale) in the 12th.

Schneider had no comment about the reservation but Dold spokesperson John McGovern was not surprised. “This is a nationally-targeted race, and we fully expect both parties will be active here,” McGovern said. He expects the Dold campaign to have sufficient resources to compete.

In the past when the DCCC has had a number of targeted campaigns in one media market, it made reservations for each campaign, according to a spokesperson for the DCCC. These combo buys allow the organization to make strategic decisions closer to the election while giving the other side less information about strategy.

The $3.1-million purchase in Chicagoland is part of a $46.3-million effort in a number of Congressional districts across the country. The Democrats need a net gain of 25 seats to regain control of the lower chamber they lost two years ago.

$3.1 millions is nice, but just wait until the Koch Brothers move in with $millions in support of their man Dold. Wisconsin is just a tip of the iceberg of out of state money changing the dynamics of a race and the will of the people. Over 70% of Gov. Walker's money was from out of State. Beyond that, after citizens united, we'll never really know where the money comes from out of fear of backlash.

The headline for this article is a little misleading. It makes it sound like all $3.1 million will be spent on the 10th.

While RB complains about potential outsider money supporting Dold, he is quiet as a Church mouse about the outside money the DCCC is spending against Dold.

Madigan already had his say so in the outcome of this election when he arranged to have the district boundaries gerrymandered to give Democrats a bigger advantage than before.

The headline for this article is NOT misleading. The majority of the money WILL be spent in the 10th. That's why Dold has already started running to the LEFT - away from the Republican Party.

Walsh is toast. His campaign is one gaffe after another. Duckworth has plenty of money and can get more from Pelosi, Obama, and the rest.

Biggert easily defeats Foster. The only reason Foster won the first time was because of Union money - and a lackluster effort by leading Republicans artound the state to help the Republican challenger. Foster has foolishly ignorred Democrats and Labor all around Illinois, so he's through.

The majority of the 3.1 million WILL be spent in the 10th.

Wake up Lou.

The Boston Celtic's co-owner Stephen Pagliuca now serves as managing director of Bain Capital. The co-owner has given the maximum not only to President Obama's re-election campaign ($5,000), but also to the Democratic National Committee ($30,800) and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee ($30,800).

From Bain Capital's website:

"Stephen Pagliuca, Managing Director, Experience:

Mr. Pagliuca joined Bain Capital in 1989 as a Managing Director. Prior to joining Bain Capital, Mr. Pagliuca was a Vice President at Bain & Company where he managed client relationships in the information services and healthcare industries. Mr. Pagliuca was also involved in developing Bain & Company's turnaround practice."

Note, "Mr. Pagliuca was also involved in developing Bain & Company's turnaround practice."

Is this the practice that the Democratic campaign ads are so upset about? I guess they could give Mr. Pagliuca credit for the tens of thousands of jobs Bain Capital "created or saved" as at Staples, Guitar Center (Highland Park & Arlington Heights), and many other companies; while blaming Mr. Romney for the hundreds or thousands of jobs that were lost in Bain Capitals' turnaround strategy.

I wonder if Mr. Schneider, Ms. Duckworth, and Mr. Foster will refuse to accept money from the DNC and/or DCCC until they return the money received from Mr. Pagliuca. Maybe someone should ask them.

Will the Republican candidates refuse money from the RNC until they return the millions they get from the Koch brothers, Sheldon Adelson, the U.S Chamber of Commerce and God Knows Who else?.....Give us a break!

@Kelly

Your money is dirty.

Oh yeah, your money is dirtier than mine

Yes, but, your money is from out of State!

Oh, but more of your money comes from out of State!

But, your money comes from people I don't like!

Okay, but I like the people your money comes from less!

Well, Mom always liked you better!

One only has to read the voting record of Dold to see that he is not who he says he is--he is not, by any stretch of the imagination, a moderate Republican. He learned from the master, Mark Kirk, that when your party doesn't need your vote for passage of their right-wing agenda, you can vote like a moderate and brag about it, but when it comes down to the wire, Dold is still owned by the Koch Brothers, and other super PACs, and his views coincide with the extreme elements of the Republican Party. You can receive his votes right to your inbox every week by signing up for MegaVotes via congress.org. It is truly amazing that they can "issues", but via the right-wing owned Supreme Court majority, super PACs most of whom are Republican can spend billions on their propaganda and that's just fine. Call Dold for what he is: a right-wing Republican. And speaking of "successes" like Staples and other big boxes, where the little guy has been pushed out, ask yourself how many actual full-time jobs were created, what kind of salary do the few who work there receive, do they get any benefits that are worthwhile, are most temporary so they don't have to pay benefits, and how many people actually work in their stores. These are the few "success" stories of Bain. Then ask yourself how many millions the CEO's at the top make at the expense of the few workers and their minute salaries.

Koch brothers are not interested in funding Dold. He can't vote their way if he wants to be reelected. They don't even have Dold on their radar according to Fox News Congressional report. I saw Fred Barnes speak in the loop in May and he agreed. I might vote against Dold, he hasn't brought jobs or money here.

"I might vote against Dold, he hasn't brought jobs or money here."

That's why we're $16 Trillion in debt. I vote for a person to represent me at the National Government to do what's best for the Nation, not for the 10th District. I expect local government to handle local issues, County government to handle County issues, State government to handle State issues, and the Federal government to handle National issues.

The GOP promised jobs if we voted them in. They failed us. I expect my Congressman to better my district. That includes money and jobs Dold is a failure. I saw that Seals would of won the last election with 53% of the vote with the new map. We are now considered a lean Dem+6 district. We were a lean Dem+2 district.

To Dan Pritzker-This is what I would say to Walsh Detractors: "you have convinced me-I detest the Walsh performance-he has stopped, obstructed, contained, eliminated, stonewalled, buried, barred, vetoed anything and everything that would help me, and that which would help America. All good, smart and loyal Americans, such as yourself, want higher and higher taxes, a collapsing government, wealthy politicians and their huge pensions, no freedom, our money to Solyndras and payoffs to their officers-even if we don't have enough to live on-it's a blessing to have the opportunity to sacrifice for our gods and give them money for trips with ob. And that document, that Constitution thing-it's so old-it's about freedom-that's sooooo yesterday. I love your side, now. What's not to like-other countries only have one or two people who seem unhappy, maybe a little annoyed. Why? Why are these few unhappy? Worried? Greece and Ireland and Spain and Italy-what are these people complaining about-you have it right. Keep up the good work. And please vote for ob again so we can continue this amazing progress made in less than 4 years-we are almost at nirvana, if you understand the world is upside down."

Five and one-half trillion dollars!!! That is what President Obama has ADDED to the US DEBT so far. He is the biggest spender in human history. Before the Pelozzi Congress started the spending binge in January, 2007, President Bush's debt addition in 2006 was below 200 billion. Hopefully, the Republican Congress can continue to act as a STOP before there is a TOTAL collapse of the American economy. We need more Reps. like Joe Walsh in Congress. By the way, Rep. Walsh is holding town meetings every weekend. Where is Tammy Duckworth? Why won't she debate him frequently, or hold open meetings in the 8th District?

Wrong. Between the wars, tax cuts, unfunded prescription drug plan, Tarp, and other deficit increases Bush added 5 trillion. Mr. Obama spent to save the economy from the Bush fiasco. I he jad not saved hte auto industry there would have been even more horrible impact to the economy. If you think Joe Walsh is great, then I clearly know there's no way to convince you to change your radical ideology. Have at it.

When someone likes Joe Walsh and not the Eagles singer you know what they are about. Nothing more is needed. Non partisan Cook report has Duckworth leading by 14 points and PPP has the lead at 15 points. Interestingly Walsh is garnering 11% of the minority vote. I would of figured 1%.

Now, to REALLY evade my question in style, combine it with holding your fingers in your ears...That way you can actually repeat the actions of RW pundit I saw on TV awhile ago !

It's always fun to watch the republican "mind" at work!

What is radical are your lame attempt to place tax cuts into a quantified budget number, so your line of crap is just that. You say Obama had to spend, why? on what? Solyndra and 35 other bankrupt solar companies? As for the auto companies, the taxpayer is still on the hook for billions, and bankrupcy would have been the better option. As for Tarp, Bush signed the first one at the same table as Barack was sitting, with Obama nudging the pen, then Obama signed Tarp II. The wars? Voted on by the senate one was 100-0 the other 99-1. Same old radical slime attempt to distort the real facts, this time it won't work, too many folks are fed up.
