Lake Forest Day brought the people out and brought them home.

The downtown streets were filled with people watching the parade from residents to former residents who wanted to enjoy the annual event sponsored by the American Legion. This year Viet Nam veterans were honored.

Lake Forest native Ed Olson lives in Ft. Worth now but he was “home” with friends Jill Bates and Richard Watson. Bates and Watson live in the Chicago area but return to Lake Forest each year for the event.

Kristen Bleecker and her son Griffin Bleecker of Lake Forest were on Western Ave. watching the parade. “We come out each year because it’s something everyone does,” Kristen said.

For Wiebke Droege of Lake Forest the day was not just about being part of the event. She was there to watch her children march, a son with the Cub Scouts and a daughter with the Girl Scouts. “It’s just great to be here,” she said.

Lori Hatton and Cindy Stromberg sat in chairs on Western Ave. along the parade route. Neither live here anymore but they like to return for Lake Forest Day. “We were born in Lake Forest and we come back every year,” Hatton said.

Lake Forest had a great parade, and the the most enthusiastic person in the parade was Ella Kennedy, daughter of Chris Kennedy, who via megaphone was telling everyone that her dad is the best, smartest, and greatest candidate for the job of Lake County State's Attorney--and she's right. but she can't wait until November 7 when she can have a little more of his time.
