The results are in and Patch readers said no—barely—to a Dunkin’ Donuts shop at the East Lake Forest Train Station and yes to a local operator.

Of the 31 people who responded, 13 want an independently owned coffee shop and 12 opt for Dunkin’ Donuts. Five prefer a new store in the location.

One reader, Reginald Ash, made a public pitch to open a LuLu’s Frozen Delights at the station. He even offered a 20 percent discount to Lake Forest governmental officials to taste the “World’s Greatest Coffee, unsurpassed donuts and fantastic frozen yogurt” at the company’s Lake Bluff location.

“The owners of LuLu's frozen delights have been Lake Bluff residents for over 15 years and their three children graduated from LF High,” writes Ash. “If you like the coffee, donuts, oatmeal and frozen yogurt, please let it be known. LuLu's would love to open a store at the train station.”

One issue discussed by Patch readers is the installation of a drive through window for customers. Ash does not consider that “Lake Forest” and would decline, but Jen Altounian, a mother of three, has a different opinion.

“A drive thru is a necessity for young moms like myself, dragging three kids into a store is a nightmare so I sometimes make the drive to Fort Sheridan,” Altounian writes. “Local healthy food is a great option. How about a seasonally awesome store—soups in winter and ice cream in summer—like soup box downtown.”

Another reader, Arthur Miller, sees merit in a well known business but is another person who finds issues with the drive through window.

“A known brand would make this more of a destination, perhaps,” Miller writes. “There are many side issues, including how much will the new tenant invest to restore the station, how could a drive-up window fit in whether chain or independent, and what provisions can be made for post-tenancy restoration if a drive-up window goes in?”

Reader Michael Ebner has a simple suggestion for the site. He wants a mail box. “The existing one was removed several years ago,” he writes. “It is a logical place for a blue box.”
