Prep Hockey Team Captures Gold Medal Classic

Lake Forest seniors among National Merit Scholarship finalists.

 

 

The Lake Forest Academy Prep Hockey team captured the Gold Medal Classic, the Midget AAA Championship game, on Feb. 12 in Madison, Wis. In a stunning overtime 5-4 victory, the Caxys beat highly ranked Shattuck-St. Mary's. To advance to the championship game, LFA also defeated Culver Academy.

Six members of the senior class were named National Merit Scholarship Finalists. These finalists have met all of the requirements to be considered for National Merit Scholarships offered in 2012. They include: Ariana Bhatia of Lake Forest, Ben Diaz of Lake County, Hunter Johnstone of Lake Forest, Andrea Shen of Lake Forest, Matthew Stevens of Lake Forest, and Arwah Yaqub of Bolingbrook. The selection of some 8,400 Merit Scholarship winners from the more than 15,000 Finalists is currently in progress. The Scholarship winners will be announced in March.

The Fine and Performing Arts Department presents the winter musical “Secret Garden.” The show opens at 7 p.m. Feb. 23. There will also be shows at 7 p.m. Feb. 24 and 2 p.m. Feb. 25. This event is free and open to the public.

In celebration of Multicultural Day, LFA hosts actress and playwright Rohina Malik, who will present her one woman show “Unveiled” at 7 p.m. Feb. 29. “Unveiled” tells the story of five Muslim women in a post-9/11 world as they serve tea and uncover what lies beneath the veil. This event is free and open to the public.
