Snow Blower Etiquette in Lake Forest and Lake Bluff: What Times of Day Are Appropriate to Snow Blow?

Snow blowers are extremely helpful after a big storm, but they can also be very noisy. How late is too late and how early is too early to use the machines?

With snowfalls averaging 1 to 2 inches per hour Tuesday, Lake Forest and Lake Bluff residents will likely be using their snow blowers over the next couple days.

Patch wants to know: How late is too late to snow blow your property and how early is too early?

We posed the “snow blower etiquette” question to our Facebook fans Monday and here’s what residents had to say:

I say 7am to 10 pm?

Agreed!!! 7 am would be nice but when you have to be at work at 6:30 am??? Not gonna work!!!

6:30 is not bad. It's the ones who get out there at 3:30a. Ugh.

I think snow blowing when ever you can/need to is fine. It's not like a weekly occurrence like law mowing at 6am. I think what's noisier is the trucks that plow people's driveways at 3am and the city plows not to mention the flashing bright yellow lights.

What do you think? Should people be respectful of their neighbors and turn off the snow blowers during certain times of the day? Let us know in the comments section.

Snow needs to be removed for safety. Promptly. Let's not unleash Miss Manners when we need to get the snow off the drive to get out in the morning. Whatever happened to being tolerant, flexible, getting through a challenge together? Really, do we have to complain about everything? I admire people who are out there shoveling late or using their snowblower. My neighbors do (or rather their sweet and responsible son does) and as far as I am concerned, any noise they make is the lullaby of self-responsibilty and their drive is right across from my bedroom. I am grateful that I am in a warm bed. Most of us just hand over the cash.
