Last Year’s Record: The Scouts finished 4-2 in North Suburban Conference dual meets.
Last Year’s Highlights: A year ago, Lake Forest placed third in the league meet, fourth in Lake County and fifth in sectionals. Sam Howard took fifth in state in the 400-meter dash.
Top Returning Scouts: Matt Miller just set a school record of 58 feet, 3 inches in the shot put and has surpassed the state qualifying standards in that event and the discus. T.J. Jackson will provide points in the long jump and was part of the 400-meter record setting relay team in 2010. Joe Hargit will run the 400 and be part of the 1,600 relay as he was at the 2010 State Finals. Ryan Miller (400) and Chris Stolzman (high jump) will help Lake Forest as well.
Leading Newcomers: Coach Denis Sheeran hopes sophomore cross country star Billy Bund can set records in the 1,600 and 3,200. Freshman Connor Adams is already showing veteran performances in the long jump and 100. He will be on the 400 relay.
Season Outlook: Sheeran calls this year’s squad a “field and track” team with depth in the long jump, triple jump and high jump. The biggest challenge will be finding strong competitors in the middle distance races. Sheeran sees the addition of a number of football players as a special opportunity. “They will make things better for us and better for football,” Sheeran said. “It will be very competitive if you make the right choices.”
