First graders in teacher Jennifer Kendall's class presented animal riddles to their parents and friends during Catholic Schools Week. The students researched their animal using kid-safe sites on their iPads. Next, they composed a riddle and drew a picture of the animal. Then, they used the pictures on the iPads to create their illustration. Lastly, the children drafted the riddles and illustration, reviewed their research, and created a final draft to be presented.
Each third grade student prepared a biography report which summarized the life of a famous or well-remembered person and presented them to their classmates, parents and other family members during Catholic Schools Week. Students first chose a biography book to read during the month of December. Using information from their selected source, they wrote a one-to two-page report in the third person. Additionally, students composed a two-to three-minute first person speech on index cards. For the actual speech, students traded in their school uniforms for clothing that would allow them the opportunity to transform into the famous person and share “their” life story.
