Yogurt and Sweet Shop Fills Last Open Spot on Market Square
Lake Forest entrepreneur plans to open shop to sell frozen yogurt, cup cakes and more in the former toy store space.
A shop selling frozen yogurt and fresh baked cup cakes will open by June 1 in Lake Forest filling the last vacant space on Market Square, according, Deborah McDowell, a representative of the property owner, Broadacre Management.
The business is owned by Lake Forest resident Laura Fellows. McDowell told Patch Tueday the lease had been signed but there is no official name yet. McDowell explained the shop must be refitted from the toy store it once was to what it will be.

For many years, the space in the northeast section of Market Square was a toy store with electric trains circling the windows. It will remain a family friendly place, according to McDowell.
“The frozen yogurt will be high end,” McDowell said. “The cup cakes will be made on site. There will be seating. This is a great fit for Market Square.”

Seems a shame that Lake Forest and Lake Bluff cannot create downtown retail communities that complements each other. LuLu's Frozen Yogurt hasn't even been open for 6 months and another shop is opening?! One should be able to thrive but two may cause them both to drown.

You mean a centrally planned economy/community? That is wrong on so many levels. And last time I checked, didn't really work out for those who tried it. Ever hear of good old-fashioned competition?
I'm familiar with another community that issues business licenses and will seek to avoid the competition you seem to find troublesome. The result is mediocre offerings and high prices.

Agreed! LuLu's is a great addition to the community. Another yogurt shop not needed or necessary. More cupcakes, really. Why not s ping pong hall or some place for kids to actually hang out out.

Lake Forest and Lake Bluff are two separate communities. This addition will be wonderful for LF kids after school. There has been a need for something like this for at least 10 years. There is nothing that fits this description anywhere in LF. Who doesnt love a freshly baked cupcake? I cannot immagine why anyone would want to leave a negative comment. Sounds like sour grapes to me.

I know Laura has been working on this for many years now. I know she was very sad when others opened recently. Her research, training, branding, planning and investment is comparable to a major national organization. I want to thank Laura for opening her heart and bakery here.

What wonderful news this is for our community. I know Laura has been working on this business plan for several years now. She is a very loyal supporter of local merchants and only has the best intentions. Shop was designed with our children in mind. They will be encouraged to hang there will be many reasons why they will want to. Please show her your support.

When we moved here a year and 1/2 ago I was sad that there was not any frozen yogurt places thought for sure LF needed one. Heard about the one is LB but never go that way. I am thrilled one is opening here!

Yeah!!! CUPCAKES!!!!!! Froyo!!!!!! What a perfect combo-wish id thought of it. Although I do not know the Fellows family, I am thrilled to hear that a local family has put themselves out there in support of the LF community. Thrilled space didnt go to corporate chain. Our kids, including mine that are away at college, will love it!

This is such a wonderful addition to Market Square!! I have heard about LuLus but have never been there because I do not go into Lake Bluff very often. Now I will have an awesome place right here in town where I can get all my cupcakes and frozen yogurt. And the kids can enjoy being part of our beautiful community!! Those of you complaining must be part owners of LuLus!!

Yay! A place to get fresh cupcakes and treats sounds like a great way to bring families into the Market Square. We used to love going for a walk and stopping by our favorite cupcake shop when we lived in the city.

Laura,
It would be wonderful if you offered peanut and nut-free options in yogurt and cupcakes. You'd have a very loyal and grateful following from all those local kids (and their parents) with allergies. Sweets has never been an option for us. - Robin G.

Laura,
You are very talented, our family has personally tried your cupcakes and they are delicious! Peter said they were the best cupcakes he has ever had. Your store is going to be a great addition to Lake Forest. Adults & children are going to love a place to get together with friends for a sweet & specialty yogurt. Thank you for developing our community & keeping our family traditions alive!
Great success in the pursuit of your dream,
Pride, Steve & family

I echo Pride's comments. Laura's cupcakes are creative and delicious, not to mention probably the best I have ever had! My son and daughter have made it a point to try them all - and not one has disappointed! Her style and creativity will be sure to result in a thriving business that is a much needed and welcome addition to the community. We wish you the very best success Laura! June can't come soon enough!

mr Billings you are wrong on so many ways. Competition is solid in theory. However in a local community you want to support complimenting business not competing businesses. Thus reducing store front turnover (unless you are the store front owner) and increasing business traffic. Kiddles is successful is because they are the only sporting goods store in the surrounding area offering a great complimenting service to their customers. Would you prefer another competing store, driving down retails and eventually closing a location? Sounds like it.

Great idea: combining the low-fat option of yogurt with a sweet choice as well. And, as revealed, all in an inviting, family atmosphere! What more could we ask for here in LF? And, selfishly, I will no longer have to travel to Love's frozen yogurt (Highland Park). Thank you, Laura, for taking this chance. We will try to keep you busy :-)
