Saachi Kumar, a 30-year veteran teacher at the Montessori School of Lake Forest, recently received a "Terrific Teacher" award from the city of Highland Park.

Kumar, who lives in Highland Park, was honored by Mayoral Proclamation Jan. 10 at a Highland Park City Council meeting. The proclamation noted Kumar's  dedication to children and for nurturing them according to the Montessori philosophy of education.

Nominated by students and parents, Kumar was also named a “2010 Terrific Teacher” earlier this school year by “Make It Better,” a trusted community resource and magazine in the northern suburbs.

The Montessori School of Lake Forest is a not-for-profit organization founded 46 years ago.
