Video Gives Insight into Adoptable Pet's Personality

Patches is available at Placing Paws Rescue in Libertyville.

It seems like almost everyone discovers the ideal pet to adopt on the Internet these days.

Whether you use Petfinder.com or specifically look at a rescue's website, locate a dog or cat, and e-mail them about your choice, you see the heart-tugging photos of the dogs and cats who need homes. These pix are nice, but they don't really capture the true spirit of the animals.

Now some rescue sites are using videos to let you see how these guys interact with other pets, and sometimes how well trained they can be.

PAWS in Chicago is a pioneer of this great method of letting the pet's true personality come alive online.

Patches is an 8-to 10-month-old mixed breed dog who was rescued along with his brother, Snickers. We also rescued their mom, Lady. She was a small black and white spaniel mix who has the most wonderful temperament.

Lady was rescued over the winter and as soon as we found out that her pups were there too, we saved them as well. Here is what his foster mom says about him, "What a sweet little boy! This pup loves to cuddle up next to you especially at nap time. He loves to play with other dogs and is very cuddly with kids. He even does well with cats. He does well in the crate especially at night and is doing well with potty training. He is a very obedient pup and is picking up quickly the training he's getting now. Just like his brother Snickers, he's a real sweetheart with those big brown eyes and would be a great addition to any family."

Adoption fee: $300. The adoption fee includes all age appropriate vaccinations including rabies, heartworm test if age appropriate, de-worming, microchip, fecal, spay or neuter, Heartworm and flea and tick preventative.

Adoption Process: The first step in the adoption process is to fill out an application online at www.placingpawsrescue.org. Once we review the applications, those applicants that are thought to be a good match will be contacted as quickly as possibly. We ask that you please be patient with us as we are all volunteers.

hen a telephone interview will take place, references checked and a home visit will be conducted. We will then arrange for you to meet the dog. We require that all family members, including current dogs meet the dog prior to adoption. We put all of the known information in the animals description.

If the animal is listed on the website, we are still accepting applications for that animal. We only remove the animal when the final adoption paperwork is signed. The best way to contact us is by email at placingpaws@yahoo.com. It is very difficult for the limited numbers of volunteers to return all calls.
