Volunteers Sought for Sunrise Beach Cleanup Saturday

Survey indicated issatisfaction with the dog beach sand, number of rocks.

The Lake Bluff Park District is looking for volunteers to pick up rocks and other debris from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday (May 5) at Sunrise Park and Beach.

Park District Park Maintenance Services staff will have a truck available. Volunteers can contact Lake Bluff Park District Executive Director Ron Salski, or meet at the north shelter at 9 a.m.

The volunteer effort is in response to a recent survey conducted in conjunction with the Sunrise Park and Beach Citizen Advisory Committee that indicated dissatisfaction with the dog beach sand and the number of rocks.

The Advisory Committee has been developing priorities for a future Master Plan based on recent survey results. One priority, sand quality, is being addressed the week of May 7.

The Park District budgeted $8,000, $2,000-$3,000 in previous years, and worked with Shabica & Associates to find the best quality sand at a reasonable cost. The firm's assistance resulted in 24 sand truckloads to be delivered the week of May 7.

The Advisory Committee will continue to conduct community forums throughout the summer and present priorities while encouraging community feedback. To stay informed, register for the Park District e-newsletter.
