What's the Best Printer for You?

Patch continues its holiday gadget gift guide with a look at the best printers available.

Each Monday, Patch will be throwing some gadget gift recommendations your way. Your Gadget Gift Guide continues with a look at printers.

Best all-in-one printer: If you're looking for something that will print black and white as well as photos quickly and professionally, your best bet is the HP Officejet 8600 Plus. It scans, it copies, it faxes, all for about $200. The biggest downside? It's a little bulky.

Best photo printer: Though it's a little bit pricier, the Lexmark Platinum Pro 905 is easy to set up, wireless and great for high quality photographs. And while it costs $300, it has a useful touch screen and uses an affordable black ink cartridge.

Best laser printer: If you're just looking for a dependable printer for documents, the Oki B431DN is your best best. It's got a 350-sheet tray and can print at about 40 pages per minute (probably the reason CNET calls the printer a "workhorse"). It may not be good at everything, but if you need something simple and efficient, then for $215 this is the printer for you.

I've got this killer 3D printer in my studio. I'm using it this year to print toys for my kid.
