Updated: Lake Forest Woman's Identity Withheld To Contact Family

3:45 p.m. Monday (July 16): The identity of a woman pulled from Lake Michigan Sunday morning about two miles east of has been made by the Lake County Coroner's office. However, the name cannot be released until the family's son, who lives outside the country, has been reached, according to a Lake County Coroner official Monday afternoon.

The official added once their office receives clearance from the woman's husband, the name will be released.

The 44-year-old woman was found floating in Lake Michigan by a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter about seven hours after her husband contacted Lake Forest Police at 3 a.m. Sunday.

According to the release, Lake Forest Police received a call at 3:15 a.m. Sunday for a report of a missing woman in the vicinity of , 701 N. Forest Park Drive, in Lake Forest.

The call was made by her husband, who had begun looking for the 44-year-old woman after he discovered she was not at their home and located her car unoccupied in the area of the park, according to the release.

According to the release, Police responded and began a search for her throughout the park, including the beach and shoreline, utilizing night vision equipment. A police K9 unit from Highland Park Police responded and assisted in the search. The woman’s home and car were searched, radio broadcasts were made to local law enforcement agencies and the missing woman was entered into the state LEADS database.

The Lake Forest Fire Department responded and requested assistance from local fire agencies for a search of the shoreline and water. Approximately 21 fire agencies responded to the area with watercraft and divers and began a coordinated search of the shoreline. United States Coast Guard units responded to the scene to aid in the search, the release stated.

During this search, items of clothing were located along the waterline which were positively identified by the missing woman’s husband as belonging to her.

At approximately 10:15 a.m., a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter flying over the water approximately two miles east of Forest Park Beach spotted what they believed to be someone floating below them. Fire units responded by boat and located a deceased victim matching the description of the woman reported to be missing in this case. The victim was transported by boat to Forest Park and the Lake County Coroner was contacted to respond, according to the release.

The woman's identification is being withheld pending positive identification of the victim and notification of immediate family by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.

11:08 a.m.: The woman has been described as 5-foot-3, 115 pounds, according to a WBBM-AM radio report.

According to the Chicago Tribune, the U.S. Coast Guard received a call at 5:50 a.m. of a 44-year-old woman who was missing near the lakeshore in Lake Forest.

10:30 a.m.: WBBM-AM Radio is reporting Sunday morning that the U.S. Coast Guard has found the body of a 44-year-old woman at 10:15 a.m. about a mile off the shores of Forest Park Beach in Lake Forest.

Rescue equipment from neighboring communities like Mundelein and Gurnee was seen leaving the beach area around 10:30 a.m., indicating the search was over.

The woman was last seen between 8 p.m. Saturday and 4 a.m. Sunday at Forest Park Beach, according to the radio report.

The Coast Guard was reported conducting a search early this morning by Patch readers and other media sources.
