Sheyman Blasts Through Fundraising Goals, Surpasses an Incredible $200,000 in First 2 Months of 2012

In the best fundraising period yet for his Congressional campaign in Illinois’ 10th District, Waukegan community organizer and former MoveOn.org national Mobilization Director Ilya Sheyman raised more than $200,000 in January and February of 2012, and has now crossed 16,000 individual contributors - one of the largest donor bases of any non-incumbent Congressional candidate in the country.
Sheyman raised more in the first two months of 2012 than in any previous fundraising period, and surpassed $630,000 raised overall since entering the race in April 2011. This surge in momentum has been matched with a powerful voter contact program which includes the Sheyman campaign being the only one up on television for two weeks in a row.
“With this broad and deep fundraising base, we’ll have the resources needed to reach the Democratic primary voters we need, through a robust field program, an impactful television ad buy, and an innovative mail campaign,” said Annie Weinberg, Campaign Manager. “We’re the only campaign in this primary that has built the kind of infrastructure needed to beat Republican Bob Dold. I doubt that a radical moveon.org candidate can win in the 10th district. Dold easliy. Doubt that Sheyman can even win the primary.

Radical how? Is supporting a single-payer health care system radical now? Standing up for Medicare and Social Security benefits? Supporting publicly financed elections? If those things are radical, sign me up for the radical left.

16,000 donors? I would be curious to see where the geogrpahic breakdown comes from. My guess is that a majority of the funds are not from his district. Has all the attributes of another Acorn movement. Where is Jeremiah Wright?

16000 donors comes to around $12 per donor. Does not sound right. Dennis, my opinion is that he is radical. All the ideas that you discuss are socialist and come from the moveon.org playbook. Our district is pretty middle of the road, thus my opinion that he has no chance.

Your math might be good enough, but you aren’t so hot at reading story problems.
Sheyman raised more than $200,000 in January and February of 2012 (alone). His donor base is 16,000 individuals total since his campaign began over a year ago.

Where do you reside, Daniel?
Highland Park? Deerfield? Northbrook?
Have you traveled up to Waukegan or Zion? Have you been out to Round Lake? Have you tried to shop for groceries in North Chicago (a town with NO food stores)? Have you applied for a job in Grayslake or for foodstamps in Beach Park?
You’re thinking old district, my friend. The new 10th is a whole lot more working class, more pro-union, more unemployed, more hungry for real change. And bad news for Brad: It is also less Jewish.
Your man, Schneider would have made a great candidate in 2010, could have run against Seals (whom he evidently did not like too much) in a truly “middle of the road” district.
Ilya Sheyman is the right candidate for this time and for this day and age. Period.
