Sports review of Deer Path Middle School athletics.Deer Path Middle School will send 13 athletes to the Illinois Elementary School Association state track meet today and Saturday (May 20-21) at the Eastside Centre in Peoria. The girls dominate the entrants with 13, while Parker Marsh is the lone boy to qualify. He will compete in the 110-meter high hurdles. On the girls' side, Meg Linnane will run in the 100 high hurdles, the 400 and as part of the 1,600 meter relay team. Deer Path Middle School wrestlers Peter Glyman and Keegan Kullby found the best way to return to this weekend's Illinois Elementary Schools Association State Meet was to lighten up. Glyman and Kullby were two of five Braves to advance to State by taking one of the top three places at last Saturday's Deerfield Sectional. George Karkazis, Andrew Tuttle and Bronko Tupanjac were the other three. Deer Path finished sixth as a team. George Karkazis and Vince Agins of Lake Forest charted very different courses for their wrestling careers, but both stood atop the victory platform as champions at the 38th Annual Deer Path Middle School Invitational Wrestling Tournament Saturday. Karkazis, an eighth grader who won the gold medal in the 112-pound weight class, began wrestling as a second grader in Highland Park’s Little Giant program.
