Five-year-old Lucy Mulloy will ask Lake Forest and Lake Bluff residents to donate to two important causes this week in hosting a lemonade stand Tuesday through Thursday (March 29-31) at Let's Have Fun, 266 E. Deerpath Road. Lucy and her mother, Jen Mulloy, will sell lemonade and baked goods in exchange for donations to the Avon Breast Cancer Awareness Walk or the Red Cross relief fund for the people in Japan. The stand will open at 1 p.m. each day.

The Junior Class of Lake Forest High School will host a Mardi Gras themed party for the Senior Citizens of Lake Forest and Lake Bluff from 2-4 p.m. Sunday (March 6) at Dickinson Hall Senior Center, 100 East Old Mill Road, in Lake Forest. Student Council co-chairs are Emily Faerber, Matt Wagener and Molly Wagener. Lake Forest and Lake Bluff senior citizens are invited to attend. The Friends of Lake Forest Library will award $1000 senior scholarships in May to students who demonstrate a passion for reading. Graduating high school seniors who are residents of Lake Forest, Lake Bluff or Knollwood are eligible to apply for the award. The scholarship application consists of an application form, a 500-word essay, and a recommendation from an adult. Lake Forest High School students can apply through the school's College Resource Center. Scholarship applications will be available by mid-February, and must be returned by March 18. Lake Forest will not collect refuse or recycling on Thursday (Feb. 3) and Friday (Feb. 4) due to the 20-inch snowfall in the last 24 hours and the concentration of Public Works personnel on snow removal and cleanup. This effort, which has workers logging 12-hour shifts, includes all Sanitation personnel. Collections will resume on Monday (Feb. 7). Elawa Farm, 1401 Middlefork Drive, in Lake Forest will host its own Christmas Market this weekend, 10 a.m.- 4 p.m. today (Dec. 3), Saturday and Sunday. Trees, wreaths, roping and greens will fill the outdoor courtyard at the farm while inside the barn there will be amaryllis and paperwhites, hand made bows, gingerbread houses and holiday foodstuffs made from garden produce, according to the Lake Forest-Lake Bluff Chamber of Commerce calendar listing. The Pedestrian Crossing signs placed at Deerpath/Bank Lane, Sheridan Road at Lake Forest College, Western Avenue at Jewel Food Store, Everett/Telegraph Roads and on McKinley Road across from Lake Forest High School were removed on Nov. 1. The City of Lake Forest implemented this program for the first time this past summer as an initiative to improve pedestrian safety at those designated locations. Lake Forest Parks & Recreation Department will host a rally of support for its sailing coach, Hunter Ratliff, who is making his Olympic bid for the 2012 Games in the 470 class one design sailboat category. The rally will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at the Gorton Community Center, 400 E. Illinois Road, in Lake Forest. Under Ratliff tuteledge, the Lake Forest team has achieved a record success as the No. 1 sailing team out of 27 schools from five states in the Midwest.
