East Lake Academy students reached out to the community recently by visiting residents of several retirement and nursing homes in the area. Students caroled up and down hallways, handed out homemade Christmas cards and spiritual bouquets, and recited rosaries with residents from the Little Sisters of the Poor Care facility in Palatine, the Winchester House in Libertyville, and Manor Care in Libertyville.   East Lake Academy students sprang into action by collecting toys, shoes and clothing when they heard that one of their own school families, the Lindemanns, would finally be bringing home their adopted son from Haiti. The items were to be sent with the Lindemanns to the boy’s orphanage, or creche, in Haiti. A total of eight boxes weighing around 40 pounds each were delivered thanks to a donation from an airline. East Lake Academy celebrated Catholic School’s Week with an impressive lineup of  special activities.  Although the blizzard caused some changes in the schedule, no fun was missed.  This year’s Catholic School’s week theme was “Catholic Schools: A+ For America." The celebration kicked off with an all-school spelling bee and opening rally for Catholic School’s Week.  Classrooms decorated their doors, and students made cards for their parents, thanking them for sending them to a Catholic school.  Midway through the week, Spanish teacher Senora Maria Gonzalez helped her students put on an all-…
