The Lake County Discovery Museum will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the start of the American Civil War by hosting a special exhibition and a series of events starting in February. The sesquicentennial celebration kicks off with Civil War High Tech. This special exhibition, open Feb. 5 to Aug. 21, explores how the American Civil War was influenced by technological advances. Lake County Forest Preserve staff will host a Volunteer Open House from 5-7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5 at the General Offices located on Milwaukee Avenue just north of Buckley Road (Route 137) in Libertyville. The free event is open to adults and youth, ages 15 and up. At the Open House, participants can review volunteer descriptions and meet with staff. No registration required.
