Diane Neubauer, a Mandarin Chinese teacher at Lake Forest County Day School (LFCDS) has been accepted into the Intensive Summer Language Institute, a program of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. The six-week program, held in Changchun, China, provides non-native American kindergarten through 12th grade and community college teachers the opportunity to develop expertise in Mandarin Chinese, enhance their teaching skills, and increase their knowledge about the country where the language is spoken. Lake Forest Country Day School (LFCDS) students recently enjoyed a successful day at the 2012 Illinois Grade School Music Association (IGSMA) Solo & Ensemble Contest. This annual contest provides music students an opportunity to perform for a judge and receive feedback from a professional musician. The contest includes woodwinds, brass, percussion, piano, string, and vocal events. LFCDA students dominated the first and second place finishes, and seven students achieved a perfect score. Lake Forest Country Day School (LFCDS) recently collected dozens of boxes of food, which will be donated to the C.O.O.L. food pantry in Waukegan. In addition to the food drive, the school participates in an adopt-a-Family program and a gift drive for the upcoming holiday season. The program provides clothing and gifts for families in need in the Waukegan area and to families in Evanston. Gifts are collected in time for the holidays and will be distributed by LFCDS students, faculty, and staff.
