A weekly column on school happenings at Rondout School District 72 in Lake Forest.Rondout School District 72 has begun to plan a special celebration in honor of its 150th anniversary starting with the 2013-14 school year. The first archival records date back to 1864 when the 60 farm families were served by the school district in its original building at the corner of Old School Road and Bradley Roads. A small committee, The 1864 Schoolhouse Society, has begun working on the yearlong celebration. Rondout family and friends are invited to drop by the Rondout Garden from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday (Aug. 16) to help with a midsummer harvest of its bountiful Victory Garden. Families should come prepared to work in the garden picking corn, tomatoes, peppers, and potatoes. Surplus will be shared with local food pantries and community agencies. Mint plants will also be available for Rondout gardeners to take home. The rain date will be Wednesday (Aug. 17).
