From what began as a 100-pound wheel of cheddar cheese, Sarah Kaufmann carved a holiday Santa Claus artwork Saturday at Caputo Cheese Market in Lake Forest. Nationally recognized as a cheese carver. Kaufmann began sculpting in 1981 while she was art director for the American Dairy Association of Wisconsin. She began cheese sculpting on her own 12 years ago. Santa and his reindeer made a stop at Lake Forest's Market Square Saturday among a host of holiday-related activities taking place in the downtown shopping area. There was also a free raffle to win a 4-foot tall chocolate Santa from Bernard Callebaut Gourmet Chocolates.
