A column on the students of the School of St. Mary in Lake Forest. Shari Driscoll, art teacher at School of St. Mary Primary Grade Center, noted the following student artwork was chosen to be on display at the Gorton Community Center where the Deer Path Art League Gallery is celebrating National Youth Art Month with a special student exhibit. Upper Grade Center Book Fair The semi- annual School of Saint Mary Upper Grade Center Book Fair is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 15-16, in the Multi-Purpose room. Susan Boucher, owner of the Lake Forest Book Store, is the sponsor. With the assistance of parent volunteers, under the supervision of school librarian Kathleen Strunk, students will have the opportunity to choose from a variety of books ranging from the "classics" to many of the of the currently popular books and series. Kindergarten was abuzz with excitement the first week of February for Catholic Schools Week with a nursery rhyme show for the parents. The students dressed in self-made costumes, reciting favorite nursery rhymes and acting out the stories. *** Second graders researched an ocean animal at home and wrote informational reports in class. They also designed posters of their animals to demonstrate what the animals look like in their natural environments. These reports were an extension of the second graders' study of the ocean habitat. School of St. Mary second graders recently participated in a field trip to the Shedd Aquarium in Chicago. The students watched the Oceanarium show, participated in a hands-on class about camouflaging critters, explored life on a coral reef in the Wild Reef, and witnessed many animals in their "natural" habitat. The trip coincided with their study of the ocean habitat.
