Patrick Patt only received 1,219 votes. I made a mistake when first posting the results. Thanks for pointing that out.   more ›

Former Village President Claims Misunderstanding in Use of Name

Tom Skinner joins two former Lake Forest mayors saying United Party may have misunderstood when using their names.

Editor’s Note—Yesterday Patch ran an article about the United Party’s claims it had backing from former Lake Forest Mayors Charley Clark and Jack Preschlack. Today a former Lake Bluff Village President makes the same claim. To the Editor: It has come to my attention that I am incorrectly listed on certain local campaign materials as having endorsed the Unified Party slate of candidates in the forthcoming Shields Township election. I have not endorsed either slate in the Shields election. I know and like a number of candidates from both slates, but none asked for or received my support in the election cycle. The confusion may result from the fact that I endorsed Gail Strenger Wayne in her first race four years ago. It is my hope that …

Mr. Skinner, Thank you for the clarification. The Unified Party is interested in a number of things that are not in the best interests of all of the residents of Shields Township. Just one example of this is that a couple of years ago the idea was proposed that since Knollwood is unincorporated, the Township should pay for their road maintenance. I am paying for the roads in my city already, …   more ›

2 of 2 Finally, as a member of the Board's negotiating team last fall, I feel vested in the current contract with the teachers and their union. I also feel that we need to focus on repairing any damage done by the walk out and to do what is necessary to ensure that another strike is avoided. In 75 years, there had never been a strike by LFHS teachers and it was appalling to see. Unfortunately, …   more ›

Letter to the Editor: Brady, Amaral, Waggoner for 65 Board

Reader criticizes another group.

This Concerned Taxpayer Supports Mary Jane Brady, Kate Amaral and Eric Waggoner for Lake Bluff School Board Why does the group  "Concerned Taxpayers of Lake Bluff" assume those who do not agree with their sentiments or tactics are "Unconcerned Taxpayers?"  Although I disagree with the torch-and-pitchfork emails, editorials and website endorsed by this group, I live in Lake Bluff and am concerned about my taxes.  It is a redundant name that distinguishes this group as much as the "Concerned Oxygen Breathers of Lake Bluff." I believe we all are concerned taxpayers. I am very concerned that a group of long-term residents are set on bullying our elected School Board whenever the Board considers investing in improving the facilities at our …

I agree completely with the wariness of Ms. Pigg’s second paragraph regarding the “torch-and-pitchfork” style of political discussion. So naturally I found it disturbing as she made the effortless slide into the hysteria of her third paragraph. I moved here only a year ago so I have been only a spectator to this point, but I have watched carefully and witnessed no evidence of such an agenda from …   more ›

Letter to the Editor: Patt for District 67 Board

Former Oak Grove board president endorses Lake Forest candidate.

As the former President of the Board of Education in neighboring Oak Grove School District 68 I worked closely with Mr. Patrick Patt who was the District 68 Superintendent for 18 years. Upon his retirement, the Oak Grove Board wrote a letter of appreciation to Mr. Patt that was signed by all 7 members of the board. In our letter we highlighted Patrick’s personal qualities as well as his numerous accomplishments in our district. Our letter is two pages in length, but the following excerpts convey the essence of Patrick’s effectiveness as an outstanding educational leader.  “While he has immersed himself fully and committed his effort wholeheartedly to District 68, Patrick nonetheless maintains a global perspective. He is well versed on …
