Ragdale Invites Community to Celebrate the Arts at Ragdale Day 

WHAT:   Ragdale throws open its doors to the community for a festive celebration of the arts, featuring open studios, performances, family activities and tours. See the inner workings of Ragdale’s artist retreat, experience the poetry, dance, music and art created there, and visit the newly restored Ragdale House, the historic summer home of architect Howard Van Doren Shaw.  All ages welcome.  Refreshments available.  Free admission. 

  Activities include:
* Dance and music performances
* Family activities and traditional games
* Self-guided tours of the recently restored Ragdale House
* Conversations with best-selling authors
* Artist demonstrations in Ragdale studios
* Sale of books by Ragdale authors

WHY: With dozens of creative activities, there is something for everyone.  A rare opportunity for the family to visit one of the premiere artist retreats in the country and enjoy an engaging afternoon in an idyllic garden setting adjacent to a sweeping prairie landscape. 

GETTING THERE: 
If you take the Metra Union Pacific North line to Lake Forest, it’s a 15 minute walk from the train station.  If you drive, there is off-site parking at the Lake Forest north community lot on Laurel at Western. Shuttle bus provided

The Ragdale Foundation is an artist retreat, located on architect Howard Van Doren Shaw’s Arts and Crafts country estate in Lake Forest, Illinois.  Built in 1897, the Ragdale House is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  In 1976, Shaw’s granddaughter Alice Judson Hayes transformed the family’s summer home into an artist-in-residence program.  Today, Ragdale is a nationally acclaimed, interdisciplinary artists’ community, welcoming approximately 200 writers and artists each year. The Ragdale Foundation is an artists' retreat center that has been in Lake Forest for more than 100 years.  It is known nationwide for its residency program, which hosts more than  200 artists each year.  The foundation works to make the arts more accessible to the public, while providing artists with a peaceful setting that is designed to help and assist with the creative process. The Ragdale Foundation also runs community and preservation programs.
