Fast Facts: The focus on Lake County basketball this season has been on Stevenson, for good reason. The Class 4A runners up a year ago boast one of the nation’s top juniors in Jalen Brunson. But there are other teams and players playing great hoops up north as well. Lake Forest and Zion-Benton are perfect examples of that. Brunson might get the headlines, but Yarbrough recently became the county’s all-time leading scorer for the Zee-Bees. He stands at 2,456 points in his four-year varsity career. He broke the 22-year record of former Deerfield and Kentucky star Ryan Hogan on Feb. 4 on the Mundelein court that Kyle Kessel amassed the third-most points in county history 20 years ago. The Zee-Bees split their two match-ups with Stevenson this season, with the Patriots getting the best of them Friday in front of a host of Division I coaches led by Michigan State’s Tom Izzo and Illinois’ John Groce. Yarbrough is flanked by a veteran starting lineup. Moragne and Young are three-year starters. Schofield is the lone junior in the starting lineup. Lake Forest boasts a top junior in the area in Boudreaux, who has already surpassed 1,000 points in his career to become the fourth player in school history to reach that milestone. He is averaging 24 points and 14 rebounds per game this season. Traynor runs the point and Miller is the second-leading scorer. All three are academic all-conference selections.
