New Resources for Green Jobs, Training

Jobs in the green industry are poised for growth and that means excellent hiring opportunities. For first time job seekers and career changers, green and sustainable careers offer a way to combine interests and skills with stewardship of the environment and the ability to make a difference.

The increase in jobs is expected to come from government initiatives and the private sector over the next few years.  Jobs will be at all education and earning levels.

New Website Has Resources
A new website, Virtual Career Network Green Economy (VCN), combines information on education and the job outlook with additional resources such as preparing for a career and necessary qualifications in the industry. It’s a one stop site for those interested in a green job.

VCN is a project of IGEN Career Pathways, a TAACCCT grant from the Department of Labor that was awarded to 17 Illinois Community Colleges, including the College of Lake County.

At the VCN site, job seekers interested in pursuing a future in the green sector can research careers and determine the training necessary. The site lists the schools offering courses and shows how someone’s current education level translates into an existing job. Career assessment and skill brush up tools are also available on the website.
