New Trier Show Honors Longtime North Shore Art League Teacher

Thirty friends, fellow artists and art students attended the opening reception for the Joan Taxay Weinger Retrospective Show, a special installation at New Trier High School's Ann Brierly Gallery, on November 14th.   Corey Postiglione, painter, critic, curator and Associate Professor of Art History and Critical Theory at Columbia College, introduced Joan Taxay Weinger and her work.  He spoke with respect and affection of her "illustrious career" spanning many decades during which she has worked in various styles and mediums.  He described her as "the consummate artist" who has mastered her practice, "a tireless artist but also a most generous teacher".    A longtime teacher and Board member at the North Shore Art League (NSAL), Joan has been instrumental in the NSAL Scholarship Program.  All proceeds from the Retrospective sales will help fund the Paul Weinger Memorial Scholarship program at the League for New Trier High School seniors who have demonstrated excellence in the arts.   Joan is currently an active member of the NSAL faculty, teaching 'The Artist's Sketchbook', offered during the winter term. The class will meet on Friday afternoons from  1:00 - 4:00 pm beginning January 10, 2014.   For more information about North Shore Art League's quality classes, workshops, programs and special events, contact the NSAL office at (847) 446-2870 or visit the website www.northshoreartleague.org.   Photo Caption:    (from left)  Fay Stern of Chicago, a student of Joan Taxay Weinger, with Elizabeth Rusnak of Bridgeview, Ruth Esserman of Chicago, and Joan Taxay Weinger of Lake Forest pose with Joan's charcoal from the Early 70's entitled 'Studio Objects' at the Retrospective opening reception on November 14th .   Jan Loew Photography
