October Prose Poem

Now the sun has come out, and the tall oak tree across the street takes center stage, dressed in the glimmer of copper sunbeams.

Clearly, The Master Artist has been at work all night:

This landscape is dabbled in with a million strokes of myriad greens that set off the flaming reds of the burning bush. And what can be said about the sedums, who are wearing jaunty hats the color of red grapes, slightly tilted at flirtatious angles, and holding their waxy stems and leaves as straight as they can in their allotted space at the front of our building?                                                                 The sedums have competition: The white impatiens now stand out, undaunted by the falling temperatures of night, their petals freshly laundered by the dew, now proving themselves hardier than their formerly colorful sisters … And once in a while, a golden teardrop from the graceful lotus tree can be seen fluttering to the ground, the tree so overcome with the beauty of this October painting that it is still fighting to maintain its composure, but betrayed by a gentle breeze.
