In her sermon for Oct. 27, Chakoian explores Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 22:15-22 to discuss “The Christian Citizen: What Does the Lord Require of Us?” “I don’t know how you voted in the last election, whether you’re satisfied with your political representatives or confident in their wisdom,” she says. “But…the question after any election is never ‘Did I get my way?’ but ‘How do I honor the governing authorities that the majority has elected into office?’”

Chakoian’s sermon for All Saints’ Sunday, Nov. 3, based on Hebrews 11, is entitled “A Guiding Voice.” “In the end, I suppose we can find our way on our own. We can be spiritual but not religious; we can be self-made and self-taught; we can wander in the wilderness of our impulses or get lost in the labyrinth of our endless, myriad options. But why on earth would we want to? The church—imperfect as it may be—is Christ’s gift of community. Not just the community in front of us, but the community of saints who have gone before.”

Each program includes interviews with Chakoian conducted by Wallace, who is executive producer.

“Day 1,” has been broadcast every week for 68 years, formerly as “The Protestant Hour.” Featuring outstanding preachers from the mainline denominations, “Day 1” is currently distributed to more than 200 radio stations across America and overseas. The program is produced by the Alliance for Christian Media, based in Atlanta, Ga.
