$1,000 Reward for Return of 'Spotty'

Help this Lake Forest resident bring her lost cockatiel home.

A Lake Forest resident is offering a $1,000 reward for the return of her beloved feathered friend, "Spotty," cinnamon cockatiel who escaped from her home on April 8 when a storm blew the front door open.

Spotty is approximately the same size and color as a female cardinal, except with a much higher crest, a long tail and bright orange cheek circles, said owner Liz Gannon, who lives in Whispering Oaks, adjacent to Fort Sheridan.

Spotty doesn't have a leg band or microchip, but she knows her name, so try calling out for her.

Cockatiels are known for their very loud, shrill "tweet," which is quite different from backyard and other pet birds, said Gannon. Escaped pet birds generally fly to bird feeders where they can eat.

Spotty also loves toasted crunchy English muffins, popcorn and millet, which can be used to attract her.

Spotty will fly to a shoulder, head or a hand and responds to the command "step up" when a hand is offered.

"If she does step up on your hand, calmly and slowly walk into your house and put her behind closed doors in the bathroom or other room where no one will accidentally open the door," said Gannon.

If you see or capture Spotty, call Liz Gannon at 323-893-1039 or e-mail her at Lgannon1789@gmail.com.
